I finally got around to listening to this release from a few weeks back and I have to say I was really impressed. Chicago emcee, Vic Mensa is also the front man for the band, Kids These Days and is a member of Naledge's (of Kidz In The Hall) Braniac Society. Things are looking up for this kid and I can assure you, his future releases will be posted here at Top Of The Roof.
Although you are probably not familiar with New Kingdom, you're probably familiar with their producer and Keys player, Oren Yoel, who produced Asher Roth's Asleep In The Bread Aisle album. The band is made up of Noah King on Vocals, Oren Yoel on Keys, Joe Rausch on Bass, and Evan Turner on Drums. Here is their FreEP that came out earlier this year but I only recently got around to listening to it. Not hip hop but still good music.

After a few great leaks, we finally have the end product. I thought this wasn't coming out till tomorrow but I guess I was mistaken. So here it is.
Hosted by DJ Premier, Past Presents Future is Diggy's take on 80's/90's classic hip hop tracks that include Rising to the Top, Shook Ones and Nas Is Like. It's not easy to rock over classics but Diggy manages to own the track, almost making you forget that it's been done before.

As promised, here is the 2nd mixtape from L.A. emcee/producer, Paris Jones.

The Chicago emcee dropped The Otherside today. Producers The Cartoonz, handled all the production and did an amazing job. With guest appearances from Naledge (of Kidz In The Hall), Imogen Heap, Mr. Hudson, and more, The Otherside makes the argument for one of the best mixtapes of the year.
This is the first Johnny Polygon posting on Top Of The Roof. I have to apologize for it taking this long. But here is his 2nd release and it is presented by 2dopeboyz & DJBooth. Polygon is from Tulsa, OK, and I guess you can describe him as a Indie-Alternative-Hip Hop artist but even that doesn't truly do his eccentric style justice. You'll just have to listen to find out what I'm talking about. Enjoy.
