K.I.D.S. (Kickin' Incredibly Dope Shit) is probably best mixtape thus far in my opinion from the 18 year-old, Jewish/American MC. Orginally from Portchester, NY, Miller now resides in Pittsburgh and has been affiliated with Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y.
Its been a long time coming, and the time has finally come for the AOK Collective’s 2 Hungry Bros (Deep x Ben Boogz) to bring you this nutritious audible banquet that is the “Open Buffet!” just in time for Thanksgiving! “Open Buffet!” features every member of the AOK Collective in Fresh Daily, 8thW1, Homeboy Sandman and P.SO. Chiddy Bang is a Philly based duo comprised of Chiddy (emcee) and Xaphoon Jones (DJ/producer) who combine elements of indie rock and electronica with some good ole fashioned "spittin." The result has been described by some bloggers as a "hipster’s wet dream," but Chiddy Bang prefer to think of themselves as "kings of the basement party jam." This duo actually met on the campus of Drexel University where they are both currently students. Only 20 years old, and Chiddy Bang has already caught the attention of major labels and artists alike, Kanye West being the most notable. Chiddy Bang inked a deal with Parlophone Record with whom they released their EP, The Preview. Chiddy Bang is currently working on their debut album, The Swelly Life due out in 2011. The Preview is currently available on iTunes for only $6.99. Buy it here.
Some visuals for one of my favorite Big Sean tracks. I didn't even know he put out a video for this til now and this video came out in January. Once again, better late than never. A Million Dollars is off of Big Sean's UKNOWBIGSEAN mixtape.
Recently found out about this branch of Okayplayer. The Revivalist is a section spotlighting Jazz musicians in New York City who are helping to revive the genre through great music and great shows. Clips and information on each artist in the video can be found at The Revivalist.
12 weeks into G.O.O.D. Friday and Kanye has blessed us with ton of good music (pun intended). Not every track is great or even worth a second listen but surprisingly enough, I think 8 of these 12 tracks are still getting played in my iPod. So I present you with what I believe is the top 8 G.O.O.D. Friday tracks, in no particular order.
The wait is over, here is the 3rd official mixtape from J. Cole. Released at 12am tonight, Friday Night Lights boasts production from Elite, Syience, and J. Cole himself. Guest performances include, Drake, Wale, and more.
I was ecstatic the day he signed with Miami. Not because of the fact he'd be with D-Wade and Chris "T-Rex" Bosh, it was because I knew how many people would begin to hate Lebron as much as I do. This commercial is the epitome of why I don't like him as a person. Props to whoever did this, it's actually pretty humorous.
Vizzy Zone was released back in July after XV signed with Warner Bros. It was released as a way to introduce XV to new fans so it contains a copule of tracks from previous projects, but it's mostly new tracks. Look out for XV's Kig With The Green Backpack, his debut album on Warner Bros.
Wiz was arrested in Greenville after cops raided his tour bus and found over 30 lbs of weed. Not really a fan of Wiz, mainly because all he seems to do is rap about weed. I guess if you rap about it enough, people will start paying attention. It's really unfortunate considering he was really on the up and his career just kept looking better, now he's going to have this obstacle in his way. Best of luck to Wiz.
XV released this on his site just a freebie for the fans back in July. I thought it was going to be on Vizzy Zone (which I'll be posting here soon) but for some reason it was left off. This is however, the track I named the site after. Don't why, it just sounded right and I love the song.
Untaped is just a compilation of Blu tracks that may not have been heard my everybody. It's compiled of several tracks from his EP Lifted, features, and some tracks from his collabo albums. Quality Blu music.
Christian Rich is an artist-producer duo comprised of the Hassan Brothers hailing from Chicago, IL. Last year, they were signed to The Neptunes label, Star Trak Entertainment. It's kind of difficult to categorize their sound but I'd say they're a R&B/Pop/Electronic/Hip Hop group. They have a couple of guest appearance on this mixtape but the biggest names are probably Peter Bjorn & John (who remix their track, Famous Girl), Pusha T, and GLC.
This is the debut and only mixtape from Canadian singer-writer-producer, Colin Munroe. Granted, it's kind of old considering it came out in December 2008, but I'm sure a lot of you still haven't listened to it. Well, you need to. Colin Munroe's claim to fame came when he remixed Flashing Lights (and titled his version, Give Me Those Flashing Lights) and Kanye West loved it so much, he put it on his mixtape. While Munroe himself is more of a Indie-Pop artist, this mixtape features a ton of Hip Hop guests and it makes for a great mixtape. Features include, Mickey Factz, Drake, Wale, Joell Ortiz, Black Milk, and more.
Either yesterday or the day before, Kanye was asked on UStream when he would work with J. Cole. Kanye responded, "I don't know when, maybe I'll get him on a GOOD Friday track or something." Two days later, here it is. That's power.
Up until Cooler Than Me came out, nobody but the bloggers even knew who Mike Posner was. When Posner first came onto the scene with his much beloved A Matter of Time mixtape, he was still attending Duke University and doing concerts on the weekends. A year-and-half later and now he's a household name with a ton of radio play. Let's not forget about the music that started it all. Here are his first 2 mixtapes that still get a ton of rotation in my iPod. And just for the record Cooler Than Me ft. Big Sean>>>Cooler Than Me without Big Sean.
New to the hip hop scene, Nitty Scott, MC has setup shop online and has begun releasing tracks after receiving much attention for her radio freestyles. A female backpack rapper, backed by 6th Sense production, and she's cute. Check out more of her at http://turntabletendencies.com/nittyscottmc/.
You may have heard of J. Cole, you may have not, but you will. As the first artist signed to Jay-Z's label Roc Nation. Jay-Z said he signed Cole after hearing the track "Lights, Please" off of J. Cole's mixtape, The Come Up. After being signed, J. Cole appeared on Jay-Z's "A Star is Born" from The Blueprint 3 and proceeded to tour with Jay. Jermaine Cole was actually born in Germany but before the age of 1, he moved to Fayetteville, NC and graduated from St. John's University and graduated magna cum laude. He's currently gearing up to release Friday Night Lights on 11/12/2010 and he's also working on his debut album Cole World which is due out in February 2011. I don't have The Come Up but I did post his mixtapes The Warm Up (official) and The Blow Up (unofficial) which contains unreleased tracks from J. Cole.
Featuring John Legend, The-Dream, Ryan Leslie, Tony Williams, Charlie Wilson, Elly Jackson, Alicia Keys, Fergie, Kid CuDi, Rhianna, and Elton John. Off of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy dropping 11/22/2010.
Long before he was every nerd's favorite rapper, he was my favorite rapper. Here is some of his first mixtapes that really began getting him the attention that eventually led to him getting signed. What I really admired about these mixtapes was that instead of just "freestyling" over other peoples beats, he re-crafted them and made them his own songs. Like I did with the Mickey Factz mixtapes, I've included some tracks from each mixtape so you could sample them without downloading them.
